May Days Poems- 'Star Wars Failed To Launch,' May 4

 May 4

This day has morphed into Star Wars Day, as in ‘May the 4th be with you.’ No further explanation required.

I never bought into this 1977 space opera phenomenon- or Star Trek and Mr Spock with his pointy ears. Cosplay? Nah. -And so to today's poem...

Star Wars Failed to Launch

I watched the first instalment of Star Wars

All those years ago

Loved the intro-

But didn’t buy into the franchise

Galaxies far, far, away

And that girl with buns on her ears

Didn’t ignite my passion

Had enough to deal with right here on planet earth

To be honest

Blocked toilets

Crows invading the rubbish bins

Sunburn

Overdue bills

-that kind of thing

Mind you, a light sabre might have helped at times…
