As you say in your response, its about valuing the small moments and'little bits of joy.' Slowing down might indeed be the key to all this. Taking the time to take a look around. I learnt so much from reading Annie Dillard's 'Pilgrim At Tinker Creek.' last year. She is a supreme observer as well as being an incredible wordsmith. I am about to purchase 'This Writing Life.' a book she wrote some years back that is now a must have for me.
Stay wellAlan j Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06077195459186935005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915339669985059502.post-89998288498628865142013-01-17T15:10:58.229+11:002013-01-17T15:10:58.229+11:00Lori, it sounds like your surroundings are summoni...Lori, it sounds like your surroundings are summoning you to go forth and explore. Put on all your warmest gear and venture forth into the snow in Prospect Park. I'm inspired in my head to get up and take a walk around the complex but right now, the snow covers all the walkways, but I love the idea. I don't do that enough... and that's just the beginning of your post.
Love Bonnie Raitt too.
Bonnie KBKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07973593425566621090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915339669985059502.post-64619893515306345872013-01-16T23:58:00.191+11:002013-01-16T23:58:00.191+11:00Alan, you had me at "Angel From Montgomery&qu...Alan, you had me at "Angel From Montgomery". One of my favorite Prine songs....

I think you are right. And it's not just the kids--it's adults too. Writing about the ordinary is something I model and talk to my creative writing students about all the time. They always think they have nothing to write about, or they have no interesting people in their lives. Sometimes you just need to slow down and open your eyes---little bits of joy happen every day and those are worth writing about.Deb Dayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00861392500601183208noreply@blogger.com
